I suggested in another post that we have free choice of oscillators - would this meet the same need? It seems odd to pull parts out, you might as well say we need “only” a wavetable synth and remove the sample and granular parts. I think if the synth was able to be more or less complex as needed then we would all be able to use it in the way we like.
I understand the value of something more straightforward, but if the devs split every part out and have lots of different products then that could potentially spread the developer resource and we might end up with multiple products all being developed more slowly.
If we have the basic framework of the synth but we can just add or remove oscillator building blocks (which we can already do with modulation and FX) then you can make a simple synth if you need one, or a more complex one if you need one.
I don’t personally like the UI for phase plant but the “add what you need” approach could work just as well here just within the existing framework and UI.

Would you expect this to be a separate product sharing the same granular engine or would it only come with Current?

From a business standpoint, sell it as a separate plugin outside of Current. Offer Current owners a discount. Its important to expand you catalog for the purpose of All Access

Was thinking the same thing about making a mini version of Current called “Wave”, but I like your idea better.
